I just installed PlecoDict on my Palm TX/Z22 or Treo 680/700p/755p and now it crashes whenever I open it / whenever I run the handwriting recognizer. What can I do?

If you're encountering crashes on startup, or if you're getting an error message that directs you to this page, it's because the WisdomPen handwriting recognizer included in your free upgrade to PlecoDict Basic is incompatible with the new Palm OS version 5.4.9, which is the version included on the Palm TX and Z22 along with the Treo 680/700p/755p. We licensed the recognizer from another company, they haven't updated it since 1999 and as they've now discontinued it there's no way we can get them to release a new 5.4.9-compatible version. And since we don't have access to the source code, there's no way we can update it ourselves. So unfortunately, the only way to fix this is to upgrade to our new Hanwang handwriting recognizer, which is compatible with the latest Palm models. The cost for that upgrade is $14.95. Here's what you'll want to do:

1) Log on to My Orders - use the form on that page if you need to retrieve your password.

2) In the "I want to purchase new dictionaries or add-ons for PlecoDict" section, click on the "Hanwang Handwriting Recognizer" link - this will add the new recognizer to your shopping cart.

3) Proceed with payment and checkout.

4) After you complete your order, there'll be a link on the confirmation page to download your "keyfile" (which will also be sent to you by e-mail). Do so, and save it to your computer's desktop.

5) Install the keyfile to your Palm, and tap on the "PDUnlock" icon in your Palm's application launcher.

6) PlecoDict should now work reliably on your Palm.

We sincerely apologize for the hassle (and the extra fee), unfortunately there's nothing we can do about it since Palm keeps making it harder and harder for software to stay compatible with their newest models. (and unfortunately, we can't afford to give the upgrade away for free because of the per-copy royalties we have to pay)
